Terima Kasih, Indonesia! Event Report on our Jakarta Workshops

August 7th Workshop

August 8th Workshop

On August 7th and 8th, MagicPod hosted two evening workshops in Jakarta. These events were in collaboration with the Indonesian Software Quality Assurance (ISQA) community and the Indonesian Software Testing Board (IDSTB), and were our first international events, marking a significant step in our global expansion efforts.

Objectives

For MagicPod, the primary objectives of the workshops were:

  • Introduction of MagicPod: to introduce MagicPod to the Indonesian software testing community and demonstrate its capabilities.
  • Market assessment: to assess product-market-fit of MagicPod and the Indonesian market.
  • Feedback collection: to gather user feedback on MagicPod, which will provide valuable insights for future product development.

These objectives align with our broader goal of expanding MagicPod’s presence beyond Japan and establishing a foothold in the international software testing tools market.

We also hoped that the workshops would provide value to participants:

  • Access to a New Tool: Participants were introduced to MagicPod, a new alternative to costly tools or tools that require extensive training to implement. The majority of participants had never heard of MagicPod, and many expressed appreciation for the opportunity to interact with the platform.
  • Professional Networking: The workshops brought together community members interested in test automation and testing tools, creating opportunities for collaboration and knowledge-sharing. At both workshops, participants and organizers enjoyed discussing various software testing topics while sharing a meal.

Events Overview

The first workshop was held on August 7th at Cecemuwe Cafe and Space. The cozy workshop space, complemented by a menu of cafe drinks and bites, set the tone for an engaging session.

Our second workshop took place on August 8th at PIC Creative Space, where the venue staff’s exceptional support throughout the planning process contributed to a smooth event. Participants (and organizers!) enjoyed a buffet-style dinner of Indonesian cuisine.

Each workshop attracted about 20 participants. The majority were QA engineers, automation engineers and SDETs. Business analysts, product owners, and some enthusiastic students with an interest in software testing joined us as well, diversifying the experience of the group.

The workshops were structured around five hands-on tasks that highlighted key features of MagicPod, including shared steps, variables, and visual diff checks. With the guidance of a facilitator, participants worked through these tasks, with support from MagicPod team members available through the sessions. Their active engagement and experience in test automation were truly impressive.

Feedback and Insights

We collected valuable feedback through discussions during and after the hands-on session, as well as a post-workshop survey. These provided us with valuable insights:

Positive Feedback:

  • Workshop Experience: Participants praised the workshops as informative and well-organized. They appreciated the clarity of the presentation and the helpfulness of the team.
  • MagicPod Experience: The simplicity and user-friendliness of MagicPod were frequently praised, especially its no-code capabilities, which makes automation testing accessible to manual testers without coding skills. The drag-and-drop functionality, intuitive user interface, and smooth user experience were also recognized as major strengths.

Constructive Feedback:

  • Technical Challenges: Some participants encountered difficulties with setting up variables, editing shared steps, and adjusting visual diff settings. There were suggestions to improve flow and order for easier navigation.
  • Learning Curve: While MagicPod was generally considered easy to use, a few participants noted a learning curve, particularly for those new to automation tools.
  • Networking: Many attendees shared that they enjoyed the opportunity to network with other participants. We hope to emphasize networking in future events by ensuring the venue setup and schedule are more conducive for networking.

Participants enthusiastically worked together to complete the tasks

The workshops were highly successful in meeting our objectives. We are thankful to all participants who shared their feedback with us; these insights will guide future product enhancements.

Many participants expressed their interest in further exploring MagicPod, with some scheduling meetings, joining our newsletter, or even expressing a desire to become product evangelists.

Building on this success, we plan to deepen our engagement with the Indonesian software testing community. We are thrilled to announce our support and Ultimate Sponsorship of the community’s first conference on October 10th, 2024, an event expected to attract 700 testing professionals. This sponsorship underscores our commitment to supporting and growing our presence in the Indonesian market.

Beyond the IDSTB Conference, we would like to establish ongoing initiatives that give back to the Indonesian testing community. We are exploring opportunities to host similar events in other cities like Bandung and Yogyakarta, collaborating with universities to give students access to our platform, and providing a free version of MagicPod to ISQA members.

Conclusion

The Jakarta workshops were a significant milestone for MagicPod as we embark on our journey of international expansion. The positive reception from the Indonesian testing community is a strong indicator of our potential in this new market. By addressing the constructive feedback and continuing to engage with this vibrant community, we are confident in our ability to make MagicPod the global standard for test automation.

We eagerly await our next visit to Indonesia in October. Sampai jumpa!
